   Volunteering & Advisory Committees

The Greenwich Township School District depends on the collaborative support of parents and the community at large. There are a number of ways for you to become involved with the school district either in directly working with teachers or students in the program itself or through assisting in the planning process by participating in our school-based advisory committees. Most families today are faced with an extremely busy home and work schedule. Most families are not looking for additional activities. However, our school needs you. We need your creative ideas; your energy; your enthusiasm; your constructive criticism; and your genuine interest in the future development of our students. Please take some time to become involved with your school.

Volunteering

Volunteers come in all shapes and sizes. Over the past year, the volunteer list has grown and the roles they have played in the school has become more diverse, including:

  • Providing students with direct assistance in academic areas through one on one tutoring;
  • Providing assistance to teachers in preparing instructional materials;
  • Providing assistance in the development and maintenance of our technology network;
  • Providing assistance in developing our web page;
  • Providing assistance to administration and the clerical staff by completing various clerical projects; and
  • Providing additional supervision in the lunch rooms.

Our volunteers work a variety of schedules. Some individuals are able to contribute only an hour a week. Others are able to be available more frequently. Some volunteers take things home to work on since they do not have time during the day to come to the school. Clearly, if you have the interest, we will find a way to use your talents.

If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Nancy Morera, Parent Volunteer Coordinator for the Greenwich and Stewartsville Schools, at 908-859-2022, ext. 310 or gtsd.volunteers@warrennet.org

School-Level Advisory Committees

Good decisions are based on good information and input. Over the past two years, we have moved to include more and more individuals in the decision making process. At the school-level, a number of advisory committees have been formed to assist administration in making important decisions about the school program. The standing advisory committees include:

  • The Greenwich School Level Planning, Research & Development Committee and
    The Stewartsville Middle School Level Planning, Research & Development Committee
    : To provide input into curriculum and program development, parent inservice needs and student behavioral needs.

  • The Special Education Advisory Committee: To provide input into the planning and development of programs and resources to meet the needs of our students classified for special education. Additionally, to provide input into development of inservice programs for parents of students with special needs.

  • The Library Advisory Committee: To provide input into decisions concerning the placement of various books and tapes in our school library.

  • The Technology Advisory Committee: To provide input into the development of our long term plan for technology. This committee is responsible for assisting in the development and review of our district’s Technology Plan.

  • The District Safety Committee: To provide input into the development of the School Safety Plan and to assist in the identification of safety related issues.

  • The Cafeteria Advisory Committee: To provide input into
    decisions that relate to the development of the school cafeteria procedures.

Over the course of the school year, additional committees may be developed in order to address specific issues.
